"Stacked Lines" 2009, is an original, unframed, collage on Arches paper made from discarded Marlboro cigarette packages that the artist, Robert Larson, collects on walks through urban environments. Archeology, ecology, pop-culture, and refined visual art are all seamlessly blended in Robert's process driven, conceptually charged, exploration of the urban landscape, cultural identity, and transformative visual beauty. The iconic and symbolically imbued Marlboro packages document, among other things, a collision between the man-made material world and the forces of nature. Exposure to the elements over time fades and abrades the discarded cigarette packages, inadvertently creating a dynamic palette of weathered hues, tones and textures that Larson utilizes, like a painter, to create patterned, often minimalist, works of art that addresses fundamental concerns, both current and universal.
